Tennis Resources

Tennis Resources

Over the past few months we have been reviewing, updating and improving the support provided to clubs. As a result we are ready to launch Tennis Resources. Tennis Resources are a comprehensive set of fact sheets developed to provide club officials and managers with support, knowledge and advice that we hope will help you to manage your club and develop your tennis programme.

The first set of Tennis Resources will be sent to all clubs on a CD rom at the begining of January. We will be continually adding to these Tennis Resources to ensure that they are kept up to date and that we are responding to the needs of all clubs. You will also be able to access Tennis Resources on the LTA website so look out for the stamp!

British Tennis Membership

British Tennis Membership

Thank you for all your ongoing help and hard work to promote British Tennis Membership to your members....

We are delighted with the enthusiasm and response so far from members who have signed up ready for when the membership programme is launched in March next year.

In the New Year, we will be getting in touch with all members who have signed up to let them know more about British Tennis Membership, the benefits on offer and how they can tailor their membership depending on their interest in tennis.

Remember, members who sign up to British Tennis Membership by December 31st will also be entered into a free prize draw to win a day out at Wimbledon during the Championships!

British Tennis Membership provides the gateway to a winning British game. By drawing in a larger number of the tennis population, it will help to increase participation and competition. The benefits on offer are designed to attract a wide spectrum of the tennis community, from social players, regular competitors to those who like to watch a game.

In January, we will be providing all club leaders with a list of their members who have signed up to British Tennis Membership. All we’ll need you to do is check that list and get back to us verifying that everyone is in fact a member of your club.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact your local LTA office or the LTA membership team on 0845 873 7202 or by emailing membership@lta.org.uk

First Club Achieves Tennis Clubmark Status

First Club Achieves Tennis Clubmark Status

Bethersden Lawn Tennis Club is the first tennis club in the country to achieve Tennis Clubmark status. The two court club near Ashford was presented with its Tennis Clubmark plaque and certificate at an award ceremony on Saturday.

With 120 regular junior members, Bethersden has a buoyant and thriving junior coaching programme, led by head coach, Tom Carlton. Tom says about the award, "Tennis Clubmark is an incredibly worthwhile experience. It has meant that we now have a detailed development plan for the next 5 to 10 years. We're also totally up to scratch with important areas like child protection."

David Bulgin, Tennis Operations Manager for the South East adds, "I’m delighted that Bethersden has been recognised for its hard work. The reward demonstrates the high standard that the club operates at, and I hope that this will act as a benchmark for other clubs in the country to work against.”

British Tennis Annual

British Tennis Annual

This year’s British Tennis Annual, the first in a series of interactive reviews, is now available on http://lta-clubs.createsend.com/t/1/l/kkkul/l/www.lta.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/F50FA4C3-4E78-40DB-809F-E7EF5AD795C0/0/Annual07.pdf This year we have decided to move away from the traditional, rather dull corporate format so often associated with annual reports and have instead developed an engaging and honest look at our sport. Please spend some time reading, watching and listening to the Annual for more about the activity in British tennis this year and what to expect in 2008, told through the eyes of those who know our sport best, our stakeholders. In response to the preferences of the majority of people we have made the principle format of the Annual electronic, multimedia and interactive. For those of who would prefer a printed format there are a limited number of copies available. Please email Sheila.Wall@lta.org.uk to request a copy.

Road to Wimbledon 2008

Road to Wimbledon 2008

The HSBC Road To Wimbledon National 14 and Under Challenge tournament is returning in 2008, providing players from clubs and schools with the opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The tournament is currently looking for clubs and schools to enter and host a stage one event in spring 2008.

The national tournament, which was founded in 2002 and last year attracted entries from over 900 clubs and schools, has three stages. The first stage occurs during the spring when boys and girls compete in a singles knockout draw at their local club or school.

The winners of stage one progress to the county finals, stage two, which takes place in June or July. The third stage is the national finals which are played on the world famous Wimbledon grass courts in August and feature the 44 county finals winners as well as 20 runners-up.

The Road To Wimbledon tournament  is aiming to get 20,000 children competing nationwide.

Closing date for entries is January 21st. For more information on the tournament and how your club can get involved, click here.
